This fine sideboard, or console table, is crafted in the refined and graceful Neoclassical style synonymous with brothers James (1732-1794) and Robert Adam (1728-1792). The piece is notable for its exquisite detailing and large size- measuring just under 2 meters in width.
The sideboard features a curved, rectangular top, above a marquetry frieze of fruit baskets and scrolling arabesques, with alternating painted panels of Classical women on a green ground. Accentuated by gilt highlights, the frieze disguises a wide central drawer and two curved, shallow cupboards to either side. The sideboard is set upon fluted, tapered legs with gilt capitals and toupie feet.
