Object Description
This large antique desk measures 72 inches by 48 inches and constructed in the 18th century style. It has an old antique tan hide writing surface with gilt and blind tooling.
This is surrounded by a band of mahogany with a reeded edge and square corners.
The desk has nine drawers to the front and two cupboards, with removable shelves, to the reverse.
The frieze is fitted with three drawers and there are three drawers in each pedestal. All drawers are mahogany lined with hand cut dovetails and original ‘Hobbs@ locks (one replacement). The drawer fronts have a moulded edge and the original brass ‘swan neck’ handles.
The desk has recently benefitted from professional restoration including traditional French polishing.
As with most pedestal desks it is made in three sections, top and two pedestals, for ease of movement and installation.
