Object Description
Large Italian Pewter octopus-form caviar dish by Piero Figura
Milan, Late 20th Century
Width: 38cm
This remarkable and unmissable piece is a pewter caviar-dish made by the Milanese craftsman Piero Figura, for the firm Atena, in Italy in the late 20th century. It is of the form of an octopus, with eight winding tentacles around the central body, and the head comes off to reveal the central dish space. Figura crafted a large number of excellent works in pewter for Atena, often in the form of marine animals, and this work is demonstrative of his skill and creativity. The piece is stamped ‘Piero Figura per Atena, Milan,’ and ETAIN 95% for the purity.
