Large Napoleon III period ebony parquetry jewellery cabinet
Height 106cm, width 104cm, depth 61cm
This exceptional jewellery cabinet is of traditional form, featuring a rectangular body with a domed top set above a shaped apron and four toupie feet. The surface of the cabinet is finished with exceptional ebony parquetry, and the piece is further adorned with fine gilt bronze mounts: pierced arabesques adorn the top, the apron, and the handled sides. The front of the cabinet features two doors, each centred with an enamel plaque painted in grey with a classicised young maiden, all contained within conforming pierced gilt bronze frames. The cabinet opens to reveal a tulipwood interior accented with stain and velvet, containing three drawers and a sliding shelf, while the hinged top opens to reveal a mirror.
The lockplate is marked ‘M.son Ase Giroux et Comp.nie à Paris’, while the enamel plaques are monogrammed and dated ‘AMEYR/ 1866’.
