Object Description
A leather on softwood Trunk lined with printed material.
The trunk is decorated with dome studs used to create swags and diamond shapes to the front and to follow the edge of the top. They also date the trunk ‘1890’ to the front. The trunk feels much earlier in date but this is likely because it is probably continental in origin. It has ring handles to the sides which are not much use for carrying but would be useful to tie it down on board a coach etc. It has an iron hasp lock to secure it. The top has a wide fringe of leather over hanging to prevent rain getting into the contents. The size is narrow from front to back. There are various partial paper labels stuck to the leather, printed in English but not giving many clues as to the owner or date.
This is an unusual trunk that has developed wear and tear to the leather through use but has also given it character. Circa 1890.
