Object Description
A brass bound mahogany military chest with cupboard to the top section and drawers to the bottom.
Behind the panelled doors to the top half are two linen press drawers that slide out to give easy access to their contents. The bottom half is as you would expect on a standard campaign chest and sits on removable, bold turned feet. The linen press slide drawers are made of mahogany with ash bases. The lower slide is a little taller in height. The linings to the drawers to the bottom section are all ash. Its likely that this chest was originally sold with painted pine packing cases, indicated by some subtle marks to the sides.
This is an uncommon form of campaign chest. We have only had 3 other comparable chests out of well over 250 that we have sold in the past. So, although not unique it is certainly unusual and a very practical design. Mid 19th Century.
