Object Description
An unusually long oak Book Stand.
With a stretch of the arms, the average man can just about carry this book stand by the two cut out handles to either end. The 4 foot length is such that it would sit neatly covering the full length of the back of a pedestal desk.
The two end boards are hinged so that the stand can be flat packed when not in use. It is quite plain in design with little thought given to added decoration. The practicality of its use was the governing factor. Having said that, it is well made and would be useful to someone wishing to display a long run of books. Late 19th Century.
