The Louis XIV period was defined by its exuberant, luxurious designs, and this magnificent fireplace moulding truly revives the very heart of this sumptuous style. The fireplace, of typical form in grand, broad proportions, is veneered all over with the semi-precious stone malachite, which exhibits a striking emerald green colour. The fireplace is further enhanced with finely-cast gilt bronze mounts all over, centred by a large gilt bronze shell. Further mounts in the form of roses and flowers extend from the centre leading to extended pilasters, themselves mounted with intricately scrolling acanthus leaves in gilt bronze.
The overall effect of the design and materials is one of grandeur and luxury, making this fireplace a real statement piece.
