A Fine Louis XVI Style Gilt-Bronze Gueridon With A Rare Amethyst Quartz Marble Top, In The Manner of Adam Weisweiler.
This fine gueridon has a rare amethyst quartz circular top, above a cast foliate frieze, on quadruple supports each headed by a female caryatid bearing a basket. The legs are united by an ‘X’ form stretcher and raised on tapering fluted feet.
Although unsigned, the high quality of the bronze casting would suggest a very accomplished maker such as Maison Millet or Paul Sormani. Both Sormani and Millet created, a number of gueridons in the manner of Adam Weisweiler, of exceptional quality, in the last quarter of the 19th century.
