Object Description

This beautifully engraved oval flaring Charles II silver beaker was made C1683 by IH crowned (Page 140 Jacksons) and measures 3.5 inches tall by 3 7/8 inches in length across the top by almost 3 inches wide. It is of good gauge silver and tapering form having lovely engraving all over the body of scrolling acanthus leaves with a winged cherub sitting on a sprig to one side whilst to the other there is an oval cartouche inside a shaped cartouche with a shell above and a leopards mask below, it has a leaf tip border to the top and a deeper one to the base and is gilded to the interior. It is marked with the makers mark under the base and weighs 4.30 ounces or 134 grams, a lovely piece of silver in very good condition.
