A Regency period mahogany Davenport attributed to Gillows of Lancaster, with a forward sliding bureau section with tooled leather writing surface and a gilt brass pierced gallery, the interior of the bureau has two real and two dummy small drawers, one signed underneath R DIXON, one of the dummy drawer handles pulls out to release the swing-out fitted pen-and-ink drawer. Under the bureau are two pull out slides and four graduated drawers opposed by conforming dummy drawers, on bun feet with recessed castors. The sliding “secret” pen and ink drawer contains two square glass ink bottles.
