This beautiful wooden Neoclassical style commode is based on a design by Jean-Francois Leleu, the important 18th Century French cabinetmaker. It is set on four arrow feet with ormolu mounts, above which there is an ormolu band around the base of the commode. At the front of the commode there are three drawers. The two lower drawers are larger and are fronted with mahogany and rosewood parquetry, and mounted with twin circular gilt bronze handles, all contained within a gilt bronze border. The third drawer is smaller and is mounted with gilt bronze floral decorations, built to resemble a frieze panel. The top drawer sits in between two gilt bronze mounts at each corner of the commode, which also feature acanthus leaf decorations and fluting. The commode features a top made from a solid piece of veined white marble.
