Object Description
A good and rare to find pair of aquatic stoneware vases by Walter and Edwin Martin for the Martin Brothers dated 1899. The tall four sided vases with a narrow square shaped foot with wider lower bodies graduating to a narrow neck and square shaped top rim. The sides have pinched edges and are finely incised with grotesque fish, eels, jelly fish and sea snails. Painted and glazed in tones of brown, green and blue the vases are both marked to the bases and dated 1899.There is a slight variation in height between the vases as is normal with hand crafted pieces.
