Object Description

A Rare 18th Century Mahogany George II Period
Centre, Or Supper Table Having Well Figured One
Piece Circular Tilt Top Of Significant Proportion Over
Gun Barrel Turned Stem And Elegant Tripod Legs
Terminating On Carved Ball And Claw Feet With
Original Recessed Castors

(This 18th century table retains an exceptional colour
and untouched patina and has quite clearly been well
loved and looked after throughout the years. It is most
unusual to find a circular top of this significant proportion
constructed from one piece of timber and that adds real
significance to the piece. It is clear it was originally made in
an eminent workshop of the time as a piece of solid
mahogany that size would have been incredibly expensive to
purchase as a raw material and only the very best and wealthiest
workshops would have been able to begin to consider this purchase)
