Object Description

Late Ming 17th century Chinese blue and white Kraak plate.
Painted to the centre with quickly drawn pair of Deer in a landscape setting.
The side is painted in panels alternating between a geometric design and a peony / sunflower.
the dating of the period based on Maura Rinaldi in her book Kraak Porcelain a Moment in the History of Trade puts it at c1640.
The kiln area where it was made is a little unclear in the book Jingdezhen is queried and due to the coarseness of the painting and the shadeless blue colouring Swatow is very definite option
For this type it is of better than usual quality and is one of the much less common types
