Object Description
Chinese late Ming early Transitional blue and white ribbed porcelain Kendi made for the Islamic or Middle eastern Market.
Excellent potting and painting of an unusual small Kendi with a ribbed base painted with peonies, chrysanthemums and flying insects around the ribbed section with the patter repeated again on the smooth upper part.
The Islamic style white metal is very probably silver and was added at a later date.
Kendis were popular in the Middle East from the late part of the Ming dynasty and this probably dates to the Emperor Chongzhen’s reign c1630.
The size of the kendi and style make it very unusual. Excellent example
