Object Description
A leather pigskin Cigar Case annotated with the places that the owner had visited at the end of the 19th Century. One side of the case has the chronological order of the places whilst the other notes S.B.B. 9/4 98 Nagpur C.P. followed by a list of cities, some of which are repeated to the first side. S.B.B. is probably the owner but there isn’t enough information to discover who this might be. We can presume that he was a soldier as the first place noted is Aldershot with the date 24.4.90, Bangalore is next on 16.5.93. Some of the other 12 places noted are Secunderabad, Wellington, Myingyan, England on 11.4.99 and Mandalay 9.9.1900. To the other side Bombay, Madras, Hyderabad, Rangoon, and Calcutta are amongst the 22 places listed without dates. Each half of the case is made out of one piece of leather finely stitched to 2 of the 3 sides. Dated 1890.
