Object Description

A small 18th century Chinese Nanking cargo porcelain cup and saucer.

The cup and saucer were recovered from the wreck of the Dutch East India Company ship the Geldermalsen which sank in 1752, the recovered pieces from the wreck are now referred to as “The Nanking Cargo”.

The cup and saucer both have underneath the Christie’s label from the auction held in Amsterdam in 1986.

The cup and saucer are both decorated with the pagoda and riverside pattern.

The cup and saucer are in good condition with two minor nicks and a hair crack to the bowl. (Circa 1750)
