Object Description
Napoleon III gilt-bronze and ebonised wooden pedestal with tazza surmount
French, 19th Century
Height 105cm, diameter 50cm
Featuring a circular tazza plateau top surmount on a socle support, subsequently raised on a column base and delineated with laurel cast borders, this magnificent display stand is crafted in the Napoleon III style, from a combination of gilt-bronze and ebonised wood.
The sides of the piece are adorned with floral garland decoration, while the moulded base is encircled by an acanthus border on a stepped plinth foot with a foliate border. The body, unfluted and succinctly delineated with concentric ormolu bands at each juncture, is a refined yet undeniably grand distillation of the eclectic style of this period drawing on Neoclassical and Rococo traditions to create a magnificent display piece that is second to none.
