Object Description

A vintage diamond and enamel bracelet by Nardi c.1970s, designed as a straight row of uniform domed zig zag motifs in alternating opaque white and royal blue enamels and single cut diamonds, all in 18ct gold, with a concealed tongue and box clasp. The stylish bracelet has a lovely weight to it, the depth creates a nice sense of volume and the enamel and diamonds combine to add both colour and sparkle to this highly wearable piece of jewellery. Giulio Nardi established his eponymous jewellery boutique in Venice’s Piazza San Marco in 1925. His designs were inspired by the city he lived in – the architecture, motifs, light, water, festivals, characters, art and culture. His reputation for fine quality jewellery grew steadily and his use of traditional techniques, which honoured the work of the 18th century Venetian goldsmiths, was widely admired. During the 1960s and 70s Italy was basking in La Dolce Vita and Venice in particular became one of the places for the international jet-set to see and be seen. Nardi became a popular destination for glamourous women looking to add a new jewel or two to their collection and to take a little piece of Venice home with them. Maybe something just like this bracelet which evokes the glittering water of the Venice canals and would have made a most glamorous souvenir.
