Object Description
‘Nautilus’ silver centrepiece by Buccellati
Italian, 20th Century
Height 15cm, width 36cm, depth 25cm
This fine Buccellati sterling silver centrepiece is charmingly modelled as a series of joined shells. The bowls of the centrepiece are wrought to resemble nautilus shells, with six arranged in a circle. Each shell is naturalistically rendered. The nautilus shells are set atop a base formed from clam shells and are adorned on occasion with other smaller seashells.
The underside of the centrepiece is marked ‘Buccellati / Italy / Sterling’ and ’26 MI’ for the silversmith Pradella Ilario, Milan.
