Object Description
A wide Leather Cordite Carrier.
This Cordite or Clarkson’s Case has been reduced in height to enable it to be used as a wastepaper basket or coal bucket. It has also had a removable, galvanised liner made for it, to protect the carrier’s interior.
The side of the case is stamped N indicating it was for Naval use. The underside of the carrier is stamped No. 66 II which may be the model or size number. B.H.&G. Ltd is also stamped for the maker Barrow, Hepburn & Gale of Bermondsey.
It retains its handle but the lid is missing. Although reduced in size its makes a very good wastepaper basket or coal bucket. Circa 1900.
