Neoclassical style gilt bronze and malachite mantel clock
French, late 19th Century
Height 39cm, width 23cm, depth 11cm
This elegant mantel clock, crafted from malachite and gilt bronze, is a superb demonstration of the Louis XVI style. The clock features a shaped malachite base, four malachite columns, and a malachite entablature topped with a gilt bronze gallery, four malachite finials with gilt bronze cornucopias, and a large centrally placed urn finial. The entablature hosts the clock drum, containing a circular enamel dial, while below the drum is suspended a leafy gilt bronze garland mount and the pendulum, modelled with the face of Apollo. The dial is signed ‘Planchon / A Paris’.
