This superb vitrine is by Mercier Frères, one of the leading manufacturers of furniture working in Paris during the 19th Century.
The vitrine is crafted from mahogany and ebonised wood, and is adorned with a host of fine gilt bronze mounts in the Neoclassical Louis XVI style. The top of the cabinet is finished with a grey marble plateau, below which are twin glazed doors that open to three glass shelves with a mirrored backing. The vitrine stands on four toupie feet, and is decorated throughout with ormolu rosettes, foliate detailing and classical masks, while the sides feature geometrical marquetry.
