Neoclassical style marquetry and gilt bronze writing desk by Grohé

The desk features a wide, shaped tabletop, the writing surface of which is finished with red fabric, the edges of the fabric bounded by a green wooden border and gilt bronze moulded frieze. The apron below is profusely adorned with floral marquetry, while the front of the apron is inset with three drawers. Gilt bronze mounts feature throughout, wrought in a Louis XVI style. The table is raised by four tapering legs, the legs connected by a curved X-form stretcher and mounted with gilt bronze beading to the flutes.
The underside of the desk is stamped ‘Grohé / Paris’.
