Object Description
The kingwood parquetry tops are banded to the edge and veneered onto cleated boards of oak above a single solid kingwood Solomonic twist column, raised on the original tripod oak basis.
Points of interest – Cutting marks to the underside. This detail is an important insight into how they were made and that the kingwood veneers for the parquetry tops were knife cut. The tripod oak bases are original and show evidence of the original kingwood graining. It is likely that the torchieres had inverted finials to the undersides.
These are truly rare and I am only aware of one other pair in existence, housed in the collection of Drayton House. I would genuinely be surprised if I came across another pair in my lifetime.
