Object Description
Chinese silk embroidered pair of sleeve bands in couched gilt thread.
The couching of the gilt thread is intensely done and shows auspicious items associated with the scholar.
The back ground silk is an unusual pink / mauve satanised silk.
Towards the end of the Qing dynasty the sleeve bands were used rather as the samoler was used in Europe that is to show off their skill as embroiderers. Couching wit gilt thread is a very difficult art.
All framed and conserved
The sleeve bands themselves are each 62.5cm x 8.5cm and framed up are 78cm x 23cm each
