Object Description

Two early 19th century French Empire bronzed lead medals or roundels.

One medal is a portrait of Napoleon Bonaparte dressed in the Laurel Wreath of Victory, the other is a double portrait of Napoleon and Marie Louise of Austria, his second wife.

Each portrait is signed under the shoulder “Andrieu F” on the single portrait and “Andrieu Fecit” on the double.

The medals were probably struck in 1810 to commemorate the marriage of Napoleon to Marie Louise.

The sculptor Bertrand Andrieu (1761-1822) was a pupil of sculptor and medallist Nicolas Gatteaux (1763-1832).

The medals are in very good condition. (Circa 1810)
