Pair of French Empire period gilt bronze and crystal table candelabra
French, c. 1820
Height 29cm, width 22cm, depth 10.5cm
The candelabra in this pair are crafted from crystal and gilt bronze in the style that predominated during the Empire period. Each candelabrum features a square profile plinth crafted from gilt bronze and crystal, with a gilt bronze balustrade moulding surrounding the block of cut crystal. The plinth supports the tapering crystal shaft of the candelabrum, with a moulded gilt bronze foot below. The shaft of each culminates in three light branches: two S-scroll branches and one central vertical branch, each moulded with acanthus leaves and each terminating in a gilt bronze candle holder and drip pan.
