Object Description
Pair of French Rococo style porcelain and gilt bronze vases
French, late 19th Century
Height 127cm, diameter 139cm
This beautiful pair of vases is decorated in the distinctive style of the late nineteenth century, when a taste for eclecticism reigned supreme. The vases feature ovoid bodies painted with scenes of flowers and heavenly cherubs in the Rococo style, with pastel pinks and blues predominating. Each body is supported on a waisted cobalt blue porcelain socle adorned with scrolling parcel gilding, the style of which is distinctly Neoclassical. The neck of each is similarly adorned, as is the domed cover. The parts of the vases are connected with moulded gilt bronze mounts, and the vases are supported on gilt bronze bases. The painted bodies of each are signed ‘F Bellanger’.
