The subtle influence of the 18th Century Rococo period can be felt on this wonderful pair of late 19th Century claret jugs, which feature beautiful shell and leaf motifs all over their exterior. Manufactured by French maker Lancon, they are finished in crystal glass and mounted with silver at the top and bottom, leaving an exposed glass section around the centre of their bodies.
The glass bodies of the jugs contain twisted ribbing, which is accentuated by the silver mounts around the long, slender necks. Each jug has a scrolled, acanthus leaf form silver handle with silver shell-form covers over the spouts. Cork stoppers are also attached to each jug via a silver chain.
The jugs are fully hallmarked with silver marks and a maker’s mark for LANCON.
