Object Description
These huqqa bases were crafted in the late 19th Century in Bohemia, the historic centre of luxury glass production. The bases are finely decorated with portraits of Naser al-Din Shah, the Qajar king of Persia, suggesting that the items were intended for the Persian market.
The huqqa bases are bell-shaped, with waisted middles and cylindrical tops with faceted edges. The huqqas are crafted from clear glass which is covered with a white and blue overlay. They feature clear glass scalloped panels which are finely decorated with portraits of the Persian king, colourful enamel flowers, raised beads and gilt motifs. The blue overlay areas are also ornamented with gilt patterns and beads.
