Pair of large English Copeland plaques in ormolu frames
Frame: Height 71.5cm, width 61cm, depth 3cm
Plaque: Height 67cm, width 57cm, depth 1.5cm
The earthenware plaques in this pair, by Copeland, are especially fine and exceptionally large. The plaques depict still life scenes: one portrays a floral bouquet, an arrangement of a wide variety of flowers against a grey background; the other depicts several vases holding leafy and floral sprays being visited by a pair of doves. The manner of painterly execution is fine and precise, and the colour palette is bright and vibrant.
Both plaques are held in ormolu frames, both are impressed to the reverse ‘Copeland’, and one is signed and dated lower right ‘R. G. Strutt. 1884-1885’.
