Pair of large Italian Baroque style carved giltwood sconces

This elegant pair of sconces is crafted from carved wood that has been painted and gilt. The sconces are in the Baroque style, each featuring ornate foliate detailing. Each sconce features a foliate backplate moulded with acanthus leaves, from which the scrolled light branch issues, likewise carved with grasping acanthus leaves. The sconces are parcel gilt to the acanthus leaves, which accents their carved forms against the painted ground.
