Plaques: height 38cm, width 30.5, depth 0.5cm
After a pair of portraits by the 18th century German artist Balthasar Denner (1685-1749), these fine porcelain plaques were made by KPM, and a depict a elderly man and lady, full of stern character and showing clear testaments to their ages, in a pair of giltwood frames. Balthasar Denner was a highly regarded portrait artist, specialising in these sort of half-length and head-and-shoulder portraits, where the face is the sole focus and other paraphernalia are discarded. The plaques are impressed with KPM and sceptre marks, with further marks and numerals displaying their authenticity.
