Object Description
Pair of Large, Ormolu-Mounted Malachite Vases
French, Late 19th Century
Height 54cm, width 23cm, depth 22cm
Each with twin handles with faces and topped by covers, these magnificent vases are crafted from malachite and gilt-bronze, showcasing this classic material combination to great effect. Made in France in the late nineteenth century, these are of an unusual yet highly effective design. Mounted on small square bases, which have curved indent corners, they rise to their widest at a large round rim, embellished with a variety of gilt bands from base to the pine-cone finials atop the covers, with foliate ribbons and a pair of faces higher up. The malachite is a later addition. Exceptional elegant wares, they are guaranteed to elevate the interior in which they are placed, and command the attention of all present.
