Object Description
Pair of large Samson porcelain cockatoo models
French, Late 19th Century
Height 35/38cm, width 13/14cm, depth 22/24cm
With wonderfully applied splashes of bright, vibrant colours, these lively and delightful antique pieces are a pair of Samson porcelain birds models, depicting a pair of near-symmetrical cockatoos, and were made in France in the late nineteenth century.
Based upon tree stumps, both the mounts and the birds themselves are left in bright white, such that the areas of rich colour stand out all the more radiantly. One features an almost rainbow like streak of colours to the feathers of the head, while the other uses a slightly more restricted colour palette, with the core of each feature left white and colour applied to the edges. Overall, they form a wonderfully complementary pair of decorative and sculptural animalia works.
