Object Description
Pair of Neoclassical style gilt bronze and malachite candelabra
French, c. 1830s
Height 110cm, diameter 41cm
This fine pair of candelabra is designed in the Neoclassical style that flourished during the Restauration period. Each candelabrum is crafted from ormolu with a triangular malachite base. The foot of each candelabrum features three scrolled ormolu feet, rising into the tripartite central ormolu shaft. The foot and shaft of each feature fine foliate detailing, such as grasping acanthus leaves. Each candelabrum culminates in a flame finial, around which are arranged six scrolled foliate light branches. The malachite veneer on the bases is a later addition.
