Object Description
Pair of ormolu and patinated bronze Empire style table lamps
English, Late 19th Century
Lamps: height 56cm, diameter 20cm
Shades: height 24.5cm, diameter 35cm
Crafted during the late 19th century, these fine and delicate antique table lamps are made in the French Empire style, consisting of patinated bronze bodies, decorated with gilt mounts depicting fruit and foliate motifs. The lower each of the lamps each feature a series of four bronze winged griffins, that in turn stand upon a gilt pedestal, set with lion paw feet. The lamps are mounted on small circular bronze discs. The pleasing contrast of bronze and gold is further complemented by the white of the shades, resulting in an excellent pair of pieces, full of presence and grandeur but retaining an antique charm and brightness, making a fine addition to any room. They are stamped ‘Hicks & Son’s / Patent.’
