Pair of ormolu mounted Canton porcelain vases
The porcelain Chinese, the ormolu French, 19th Century
Height 75cm, width 20cm, depth 20cm
Finely crafted from Chinese porcelain, these vases depict elaborate court settings with multiple figures and also birds, butterflies and floral motifs. They are set on a green famille verte ground with gilt additions. The bases and rims are mounted with ormolu that was made in France in the 19th Century, shortly after the porcelain vases were themselves created. These are known as Chinese export objects- made to be purchased and appreciated by a foreign collector with an interest in Chinese culture.
