Object Description
Pair of Ormolu-Mounted Malachite Tazze
French Mid-19th Century
Height 23cm, diameter 18cm
Crafted from the timeless combination of malachite and ormolu, this beautiful pair of tazze were made in France in the mid-nineteenth century. ‘Tazza’, meaning ‘cup’, or ‘goblet’ in Italian, is generally used to refer to small, shallow drinking vessels, either functional or purely decorative wares, as in this case. The two here stand approximately 23cm in height and consist of beautifully cast gilt-bronze dishes, elegantly decorated with foliate motifs, mounted on larger malachite bases.
