These stunning, jewel-like Russian vases are exceptional examples of the glassmaker’s craft. Each one is beautifully built from so-called ‘ruby glass’, or ‘cranberry glass’, a distinct type of glass made using large quantities of gold in the mixture. It is this addition which gives the resulting piece its distinctive rosé hue.
Each vase is of amphora form, with diamond-like cut glass faceting around its exterior. The vases each have twin handles which are mounted with gilt bronze swans and acanthus leaf detailing, and each vase is also mounted around the rim with a band of gilt bronze. The vases are set on square gilt bronze bases.
