Object Description

Pair of very large German porcelain figural centrepieces
German, c. 1880
Height 90cm, width 41cm, depth 34cm

This remarkable pair of centrepieces, crafted in the distinctive style of the esteemed German Meissen manufactory, beautifully blends the whimsical charm of Rococo with the timeless elegance of Classical design.

Each centrepiece is crowned with a pierced bowl, its outer surface adorned with geometric patterns and intricate gilding. The bowls are supported by a central stem, featuring delicate porcelain leaf details, around which three female figures stand in unison, holding hands. Clad in flowing gowns, often embellished with detailed designs, the figures exude an air of divine grace, with their braided hair framing serene, confident faces. The use of soft, pastel tones typical of Meissen porcelain enhances the vibrancy of the piece.

The figures are anchored on tripartite stands in the Rococo style, each base featuring floral arrangements set within a gilded border. The three scrolling feet, embellished with a rocaille motif, provide a graceful finish to the design.

Both centrepieces are signed with an underglaze blue mark beneath.

These large and impressive centrepieces can be displayed on, for example, pedestals adding grandeur to the space.
