Object History

Of the five children Gauguin had legitimately it is known his two favourites were Aline and Clovis. Tragically Clovis died young in 1900 after blood poisoning after a hip operation. This study shows Clovis as a baby, it is a very touching study of Gauguin’s favourite son. Drawn as a labour of love bearing in mind the death of his son 3 years before his own death. This becomes even more personal and precious to Gauguin himself.
