Agnes Augusta Talboys was born in 1863 the daughter of Timothy and Agnes Talboys. She lived with her family in Melksham near Trowbridge, later moving to Brighton where she is believed to have studied art. She later moved back to the Bristol area living near Westbury-on-Trym and Cotham.
Talboys specialised in paintings of animals, particularly cats in the tradition of Alfred Arthur Brunel de Neuville and Henriette Ronner-Knip. She exhibited at the Royal Society of Artists, Birmingham and the Royal West of England Academy where she was elected an associate. She exhibited from an address at 20 Southfield Road, Cotham, Bristol. Talboys died on 26 August 1941 at Weston super Mare.
Examples of her works can be found at the Royal West of England Academy, Bristol Museums, North Somerset Council and the Swindon Museum Art Collection.
The painting is housed in a new English made gilt frame which is in excellent condition.
