Object Description

Circa 1860, a hand-painted porcelain figure of James Quinn as Shakespeare’s character Sir John Falstaff. With brass sword, on rococo base (sword has been re-attached) and imprinted Derby Porcelain mark to base (similar to Derby porcelain marks). This figurine was a popular subject and adapted over time by the Derby factory (with similar example seen in Victorian and Albert hyperlink: http://collections.vam.ac.uk/item/O118260/sir-john-falstaff-figurine-unknown/) and was of the foremost British actor James Quin. He appears as Falstaff, a character from Henry IV and The Merry Wives of Windsor by Shakespeare.
