Object Description
Porcelain, gilt-metal, and enamel ‘Fleurs des Siècles’ flower basket model
American, c.1975
Height 38cm, width 37cm, depth 26cm
Made by the Gorham company in their Providence factory, this superb flower basket model was designed by Jane Hutcheson, and is one of a collection known as the ‘Fleurs des Siècles.’ Produced from the early 1970’s to the mid 1980’s, these pieces, made of variety of silver-gilt, silver-plate, and hand-enamelled and hand-crafted flowers and leaves, and often mounted in porcelain baskets such as this, these beautiful and elegant pieces are said to have been inspired by Vincennes porcelain flowers, and were advertised at the time as ‘blooming beautifully from here to eternity to grow more precious with time,’ – rather apt for such a superb objet d’art, the beauty and value of which is only likely to grow and blossom.
