Object Description

A Roman marble relief fragment, carved with a gesturing paniscos, a fragmentary reclining figure holding a staff, and the remains of a young satyr carrying a lagobolon. Mounted on a wooden purpose-made stand (height with stand 16 cms).

Circa 1st-3rd century AD.

Provenance:
Lucille Kaye 1920-2012), New York and Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts, probably acquired in the 1970’s or earlier.
