Object Description

This lovely quality crested early George III silver coffee pot was made in London in 1769 by Messrs Smith & Sharpe and measures almost 12 inches tall by 8.5 inches handle to spout and is 4.5 inches in dia across the base. It is beautifully decorated with embosses acanthus leaves, scrolls and graduated drop detailing to both body and hinged lid and has a graduated bead finial and gadrooned edge to the lid with a further band of gadrooning to the base. It is crested to one side and has shell detailing to the cast ferrule at the top of the handle with a scrolled ferrule at the bottom of the double scrolled fruit wood handle, the beautifully decorated cast swan neck spout has large leaf detailing below the spout with graduated bead detail running through that towards the opening and above the opening there is further graduated bead detailing. It is fully hallmarked to the side and to the lid rim with the makers mark and lion passant, a very attractive pot in excellent condition as useful as the day it was made weighing 29.35 ounces or 914 grams.
