Object Description

This George III silver spice cruet was made in London in 1814 by Emes and Barnard and measures 8.25 inches wide by 3.5 at its widest and stands 8.5 inches tall, it has a wonderful coat of arms to the stand and the castors, the stand is super quality with Regency style ball and claw feet fully hallmarked, the pierced castor is fully hallmarked on the side and inside the lid with the date letter and lion passant and the other one is hallmarked underneath and to the rim with the makers mark, date and lion. The embossing to the castors is lovely and they each have a wrythen finial. We believe it to be a custom made spice cruet, one is a regular castor with a pierced top, the other opens half way down and is gilded to the interior which is why we think it was made for spices or mustard – someone has commissioned this specially. It is in excellent condition and weighs 30.25 ounces or 941 grams.
